The Pineapple Sweet Orange has a rich history. It is the oldest cultivated citrus variety in Florida, originating from seedlings planted around 1860 in Citra, Florida. This variety is now available in Jamaica The subtropical evergreen fruit tree is highly productive and cold hardy to 26 degrees, this thornless member of the Rutaceae (Citrus) family matures mid-season with a rich, sweet flavored fruit that many favor for snacking and juicing. Pineapple Sweet Orange fruit is medium to large size, round to oval, orange color, pebbly peel.

Its name originates from the delicate pineapple fragrance the blossoms emit, but the fruit itself doesn't taste like pineapple. The Pineapple Sweet Orange is an excellent pollinator and ornamental addition, blossoming under dense canopies and creating a mid-season fruit which markets stock as a principal variety. The fruit bears an orange, medium-thick rind with a pebbled, aromatic exterior. Inside, the moderately seedy Pineapple Sweet Orange comes equipped with picturesque juicy flesh worthy of admiration and a spot potted on your patio or balcony!

Growing Pineapple Sweet Oranges
Pineapple Sweet Orange trees need full sun. Planted in the pot, these citrus trees can reach 4 to 6 feet tall. The mature size can be kept smaller by pruning. In a garden pot, the tree’s height will be reduced by the size of the pot. Bring your potted trees indoors for the winter in cooler climates. The plant is heat tolerant.

This is a self-pollinating fruit tree variety, so outdoor trees will produce fruit by natural means. Indoor trees can be pollinated by hand using a small paintbrush.
